Overview
This qualification reflects the role of a Security Officer, responsible for maintaining safety and security by patrolling, protecting or guarding property while unarmed, and screening entry, monitoring behaviour and removing of persons from premises.
It provides a pathway to further learning and work in various security roles and settings including, but not limited to:
- Armed Guarding
- Cash-in-Transit
- Close Protection
- Control room operations.
- Guard dog handling
This course is designed to provide a thorough understanding and knowledge of security guard requirements, where further employment in the role of being a security guard consolidates the skills and knowledge gained.
This Cert II Security Course is delivered over a four-day period and is endorsed by the PNG Security Industry Authority (SIA)
Units
To achieve a qualification and award of the PDTI Cert II Security certificate, competency must be demonstrated in the following units of competency:
- PDTIST3-001 Apply effective communication skills to maintain security
- PDTIST3-002 Apply legal and procedural requirements to be effective in a security team
- PDTIST3-003 Apply risk assessment to select and carry out response to security risk situations
- PDTIST3-004 Patrol premises to monitor property and maintain security
- PDTIST3-005 Screen people, personal effects and items to maintain security
- PDTIST3-006 Monitor and control entry and exit of persons and vehicles from premises
- PDTIST3-007 Monitor and control individual and crowd behaviour to maintain security and manage intoxicated persons and remove persons from premises
- PDTIST3-008 Apply WHS, emergency response and evacuation procedures to maintain security
Cost
The cost of this course is based on a per participant basis, however, prices per individual can be negotiated on group bookings. The minimum number of course attendees per course is 6 people and the maximum number per course is set at 20 people.
Price Option 1 – Course delivery at PDTI venue, with morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea provided is – K1350 per person.
Price Option 2 – Course delivery at Client venue, without the cost of morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea being provided by PDTI is – K1200.
Price Option 3 – One and a half days of theoretical training, followed by a course workbook assessment – K700 per person.
This is then followed by a practical on the job assessment, by a recognised and suitably qualified workplace assessor, whereby third-party evidence is provided to PDTI to validate assessments, at a cost of K30 per unit of competency per person.
PDTI can deliver training in areas outside of Port Moresby, with the client paying the cost of travel, accommodation and meals for travelling instructors/trainers.
Delivery
The Cert II Security Training course is instructor lead taking place in a face-to-face setting, over a four-day period. Course participants will undergo both a theoretical and practical assessment to confirm competency in training units.
All course participants will be provided with a compressive course booklet that provides notes and information on all course topics/modules.
This course can also be delivered over an extended period of time by:
A practical on the job assessment, over a period of one month, by a suitably qualified and experienced third-party assessor, to attest to competency in the respective course units.
